Kristy and Melody founded Buddy’s Builders because they believe that even a simple act of kindness can make a difference in someone’s life. But even they never dreamed that together with dedicated volunteers they could change the lives of so many families and animals in the Denver metro area. Their mission? To build and donate dog houses for low-income doggie parents who need a little extra help providing adequate shelter for their dogs. Established in 2014, the volunteer-based group is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
In order to distribute the dog houses at no cost to deserving folks, Buddy’s Builders relies on supplies donated by both private citizens and local business partners. No gift is too small and all will be appreciated and used.
Buddy’s Builders’ current wish list includes:
- Carpet and Carpet Pad
- Duct board insulation
- Dog Beds
- Cash donations for supplies
- Tools like hammers, staple guns and power screw drivers
- Home Depot and Lowe’s gift cards
- Roof shingles
- Exterior Paint (any color) and new paint brushes (3 inch at Dollar Tree are great!)
Those who can volunteer their time are also needed to keep up with orders. Individuals, families, civic groups and company employees have been and continue to be valuable support. This past October, the construction class at Westminster High School made a HUGE difference in the lives of many. With supplies donated by IKEA Centennial, LCI Denver, Premier Painting LLC, Aztec Custom Rug & Carpet, and transportation complements of Road Scholars Moving & Storage, the students, under the direction of Mr. Peter Lutz, built and donated 19 dog houses for families in need.
Want to Volunteer?
In addition to basic construction, Buddy’s Builders has a great need for volunteers that can help in other areas — those who have trucks and can transport houses; those interested in baking dog biscuits for recipient doggies and fundraising efforts; and those who can sew and participate in the dog bed project that assists local shelter pets awaiting their forever homes.
