The MaxFund Chili Cook-off is right around the corner!
On Saturday, March 25, head over to the Fado Irish Pub between 1 and 4pm, when family and friends will come together for the 23rd MaxFund Chili Cook-off. The highly anticipated event is an annual fundraiser for MaxFund — the awesome Denver non-profit, no-kill animal shelter and adoption center.
Eat, Drink and Be Merry
Sample the red, green, white, and vegetarian chili made by local competitors (and there’s also a Celebrity Chef category), have a beverage, participate in the judging and enter to win prizes. Yes — participate in the judging because you too can become a Chili Taster/Judge no matter your age. All you need is a ticket. And all proceeds will benefit the dogs and cats of MaxFund. Advance taster tickets are $10 per adult and $5 per child 12 and under (purchased here) and $15/$10 at the door.
Meet New Friends
If you’re not familiar with MaxFund, the Cook-off is a great way to get to know the organization. In a nutshell, the center works hard to give animals, including the injured, abandoned, and abused, a “second chance at life” and their tireless efforts have been exemplary. Since their inception some 25 years go, they’ve found great forever homes for 30,533 dogs and cats, and spayed/neutered 45,438!
During the Cook-off, the MaxFund Adoption Van will be on hand with lots of available animals to meet! We can’t promise who will be in attendance, but read on to meet Porcupine and Almond who are just two of the lovable doggies ready to exchange some love with a new family.
Suuuppp! The name is Almond.
I am a male mixed breed born in June 2016. I weigh around 50 pounds!
I am a VERY zealous pooch! And when I say “Zealous,” I’m not kidding! I have so much enthusiasm for life! I love everyone and everything in it! Whenever a person walks into a room, I can’t contain my excitement! My whole body curls into a C-curve, and my tail wags so fast, you’d think I’m about to take off like a helicopter! It’s actually quite comical to see me this excited. My “c-curve” position makes it so my tail whacks me in the face when I’m wagging it! I just get so happy that it doesn’t even phase me! My goofy antics constantly have my peers giggling. I can assure you that a life with me is going to be a lifetime of happiness and laughter! Doesn’t that sound nice?!
There is no doubt that I’m terribly fond of humans of all ages, shapes and sizes! You’ll be pleased to know it’s no different with my doggy pals! If you have any in your home, I’d love to meet them to see if we could coincide. I’ve also met a couple kitties in the past and they seemed very interested and playful!
With my enthusiasm, comes lots of energy! I’m always on the go and ready to boogie! It would be a dream come true to be someone’s adventure buddy. My eyes are lighting up at just the thought of all the expeditions we could endure together. I’m also very food motivated and intelligent! I’ve mastered my basic commands but want to learn more with you! Will you help me be my best possible me?! You won’t regret it!
Good day! My name is Porcupine.
I am a beautiful female mixed breed born in 2009. I weigh around 60 pounds.
I came to MaxFund as a stray. I was found around Denver roaming the streets all by my lonesome. When you meet me, you’ll probably notice something a little different about my appearance. Parts of me are full of my luscious, shiny, black coat, while other parts of me are completely nakey! I’m not sure why I am this way, or how this happened, but I do know one thing: My unique coat makes one of a kind! I once felt very insecure about my different appearance but when I got to MaxFund, I was reassured that my rare looks give me character and make me original! Unique is beautiful, and I’m hoping you feel the same way!
It would seem that I’ve been through a lot in my life, but I don’t let that keep me from smiling! I’m a very happy lady, who is constantly smiling, my tongue hanging out of my mouth cheerfully! I’m always sure to greet my peeps with my winning smile, and an inviting tail wag! It’s kind of ironic that I’m named after a porcupine (a creature so prickly) when I have the softest heart! I love being center of attention, but I’m not pushy about it! I will never deny the honor of being loved on by a human, but if my human is busy, I know how to entertain myself! I’m a pretty chill lady and would love to be your resident couch potato! I’ve always dreamed of living in a warm home, and cozying up to my forever human at the end of their long day…Maybe we can even watch some of our favorite flicks or you can read me a story! I also have a very inquisitive and curious nature. When I’m in a new environment, I like to take in all my surroundings, and all the cool smells! It’s adorable to watch me sniff around and take everything in!
I’ve done a couple of meets with some dogs here at the shelter and it went well! If you have any potential doggy siblings in the home, I’d love to meet them to see if we can coincide. I am not a fan of kitties so it would be best if I went to a home without them.
